My name is Bekah Keller and I go to Flowery Branch High School. I have always been very passionate about fashion and the influence it has world wide. When I was younger, adults would ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up, and I always knew the answer. My dream is to become an international fashion buyer. I figured out a couple of years ago that I needed to start interning and gaining experience early on. I started working retail when I was 16 years old and I am currently working at Fab'rik Boutique as a personal stylist/assistant manager. Through this internship I have learned so much about the business. This job is way more than just watching people try on cute clothes. I am trained to buy for the store, run related reports on a daily basis, analyze daily sales, attend monthly sales meetings, call in for monthly corporate conference calls, book styling appointments weekly, and host private shopping parties.
I worked another job on the side that also played a huge role in my career study. I was an assistant for a local photographer. I was expected to show up on time in the mornings (on average, around 5 a.m.), run errands, run social media accounts, edit photos, logo photos, style highlight shoots, attend Atlanta antique shows to buy props, and book her appointments. I was always on call and the early mornings before school were not easy; however, I gained so much experience through this. I was given the opportunity to style her clients and my creativity had no limits. This job taught me how to be a better worker and showed me that hard work really does pay off.
Lastly, through my internship at Fab'rik Boutique, I was introduced to many influential people. I ended up getting a job at the Atlanta Mart. I worked as a down loader in a show room during show week, which is the biggest week of the year. People from all over the world come to the Atlanta Mart during this week to buy for their store. My duties as a down loader included putting together mass orders, setting shipping dates, splitting orders, helping buyers, and ensuring that every item wanted was on the order. It was very stressful and I was exposed to a whole different environment. I learned how to work under intense pressure.
Through these three different jobs, I gained so much knowledge and met many fashion icons who taught me things that I will never forget. This year has prepared me for the real world and I am so thankful for every position I was offered.
